Color Trend: 10 Easy Afghan Patterns in Market Flower Hues

April 18, 2015 by AllFreeCrochetAfghanPatterns

Flowers are an obvious trend for spring, when everything is in bloom. Every year, the flower patterns will reappear in clothing lines, home decor and more. However, there’s usually some kind of twist to the flowers; you’ll see designs that focus either the elegance of the rose, the innocence of the daisy or the fun colors of more common flowers.

The flowers’ personalities tend to shine in these designs, which is a really fun element to play with, as a crocheter. People tend to be drawn to whatever flower reflects their own personality. Have you ever met someone who loved sunflowers and never smiled?

This year, we’re seeing the market flowers trend making a comeback, but with more of a vintage feel. Last year, major retailers like Bath & Body Works played with the cute ‘fresh market’ theme, with designs that recalled farmer’s markets and a DIY spirit. We saw that trend in the afghan world as well, with vibrant, flower-inspired yarns and poppy eye-catching afghan patterns.

This year, the market flower trend is back, but it’s a little more refined. Just take a look at this gorgeous color palette from Design Seeds and let the afghan inspiration overcome you. If you don’t want to commit to an entire afghan pattern to try this palette, an easy granny square pattern might be just the ticket.

These muted floral tones are perfect after such a harsh winter and slow-start spring (here in the Midwest, anyway). The great thing about these hues is that while they’re playful enough for Spring, they’re not too intense to be used year-round. These understated tones remind us of the garden shows on Downton Abbey. It’s a more traditional market flower, like your grandmother would have loved. Budget-friendly tip: wait until the end of the season when summery colors make their debut, then stock up on spring clearance yarn.

We’ve rounded up easy afghan patterns from AllFreeCrochetAfghanPatterns.com, inspired by these hues. We’re hoping you’ll find one you love and start your own garden of springtime afghans!

Creating Cards with Yarn Scraps

We knitters and crocheters often find ourselves with leftovers and snippets of yarn after completing our projects. I tend to collect everything because I know there could be a use for it all, eventually.
