One of the most economical crochet projects is the crochet granny square. I love 17 Gorgeous Crochet Granny Square Patterns because like many, I am a confessed granny addict. These crochet granny square patterns are great because they give you a ton of freedom with your projects.
When you don’t have a lot of yarn, or simply want to get rid of some scrap yarn, a crochet granny square is the best choice! They’re small, quick to make, and don’t use up a lot of yarn. Plus, once you build up your collection, you can make a unique granny square blanket. One of my favorite things to do is combine different crochet granny square patterns that I’ve accumulated over the years and make them into an afghan. I think this makes one of the best creative gifts ever!

I had a lot of fun making the “Granny’s a Square” afghan (pattern on Ravelry) this summer, which used up a lot of the worsted-weight yarn I’d picked up at garage sales this spring. To get rid of the fingering, sport & DK yarns, I made a series of “giant granny square” afghans, using either 4 strands of DK yarn or 6 strands of fingering/sportweight yarns held together, and a size N/10mm hook. My son will be off at law school on his birthday in early September, and I might “stashbust” through my worsted-weight yarns with a similar multistranded “giant granny square” afghan with an even bigger Q hook, as a “care package” present for him.
I would love to know how to crochet the heart pattern that I saw when I clicked onto your page from my email.
Thank you.
