A lot of people say they can’t paint, but they would really like to make art. I’m here to tell you it can be so easy. Really, anyone can do it. I made this four-panel piece of art with the help of some stencils.
I have a bunch of squirrels that have become super friendly and like to eat nuts I give them. They follow me around and come up to my doors and windows looking for treats. I, of course, give them nuts because they are so darn cute! They are the inspiration for my NUTS squirrel art.
The first step was to paint each artist canvas in a different color. I chose to give each one a slightly gradient coat of Plaid paints. Warhol did multiple panels of the same image in different colors so I will be as well.
To make the squirrel stencil, I die cut the shape out of a heavy piece of recycled plastic packaging.
I stenciled the squirrel on each panel using a contrasting color of paint.
Once they were dry, I used a Sharpie to trace an outline and then to write the letters in each space.
I filled in the center space of each letter again with a contrasting color of paint.
Since it’s a tiny space, I did a bit of touch up after with the Sharpie.
I used a large black book as my background to mount the four artist-painted panels. Recycled books are fast becoming one of my favorite elements to make art on.
So, if you are looking to make some art, consider stenciling as an option to try out.
