Crafts for Fitness Buffs: Save Money & Feel Great

November 18, 2013 by FaveCrafts

Full disclosure: I’m a bit of a gym rat. I love walking into my local fitness center after  a long day at the office and sweating it all out. Whether I choose to run on the treadmill or get all zen in a yoga class, I find that exercise really is the best medicine for what ails you.

New Year’s is just around the corner and one of the most popular resolutions is to lose weight. Exercise is just one of the many steps a person can take to make it a happy, healthy new year and I’m sure that on January 1st, the gym I belong to will be a little bit more crowded. A good way to boost self-confidence and get motivated before heading out to the gym is by crafting some fashionable items to wear or use when you walk in the door. With these inexpensive and ingenious crafts, runners, yogis and cyclists can look good as they get healthy and gain strength in the new year.

Crafts for Yoga –

Star Studded Yoga Mat Tote – Use resuable shopping bags to create this colorful tote. If you’re showing up to a new class, it might feel intimating to talk to someone new. Luckily, this tote is a great conversation starter – people will be shocked when they find out it’s made from recycled materials!

Knit-Yoga-SocksYoga Socks – These toe-less, heel-less socks may seem strange to non-yogi’s, but they actually really help when you’re pulling off those tough poses. The soft yet durable yarn helps you grip the surface of your mat, and softens the impact when you’re flowing from one position to another. Best of all, you only need two skeins of yarn for this project, so you won’t break the bank.

Crafts for Runners –

iPod Armband – Now you can take your tunes with you wherever you go. Whether you’re running on the treadmill or hitting the streets, this armband will certainly come in handy. You’ll love having two free hands (trust me, it makes the experience so much better). Get excited about running and load up your iPod with some fast and fun music – you’ll be running marathons before you know it.

Jogger’s iPod Case – Name-brand iPod cases can cost as much as $50 at an athletic store. Save big and keep your favorite MP3 player safe by creating your own version at home. If you have some scrap fabric, you can easily make your own iPod case. There’s even a secret pocket for important items like ID and keys. Loud music is a huge motivational tool during a tough workout – never leave home without this case.

Fitness Crafts for Everyone –

Water Bottle Bag – It’s so important to stay hydrated when you’re working out. Even if you aren’t dripping sweat, you could be losing precious electrolytes. It’s important to drink water throughout your workout (as well as before and after) so you can give your best effort. This crochet bag makes your life easy – you can throw it over your shoulder and carry it like a purse. Also, it looks really cute, so you can take it with you on the town, too.

Slouchy Drawstring Bag – Carry your gym clothes in style! Use fabric you already have to crate this cute and unique bag. This isn’t a traditional gym bag – it’s much more creative and cute. Don’t sacrifice your style – create your own drawstring bag and show off your creativity. Best of all, this bag is roomy and durable, so you can throw it in your gym locker with all of your clothes – there’s no chance it will rip or collapse.
