How to Make a Dreamcatcher: The Perfect Spring Craft

May 5, 2015 by Rebecca Greco Leave a Comment

Dreamcatchers are such a fun crafts for kids. They’re easy to make, don’t need many supplies, and can be customized for so many different occasions. This spring dreamcatcher is especially fun because you can forage for most of the supplies yourself!

Enjoy the spring weather and take a nature walk and collect items for your dreamcatchers. We just walked around the block and ended up with more than enough supplies. I avoided letting my kids pick anyone else’s flowers, but we collected a lot of dandelions, leaves, pinecones, and some seed pods. Then we went to our own garden for daffodils and other little flowers. Learning how to make a dreamcatcher has never been simpler or more fun!

Supplies

  • Embroidery hoop (I used 7″)
  • Twine, yarn, or any other string
  • Scissors
  • Leaves, pinecones, flowers, feathers, or any other bits of nature

Instructions

1. Separate the embroidery hoop pieces and tie the string around the inner hoop.

2. Wrap the string around the hoop, alternating the direction as you go. Cut the string and tie the other end to the hoop to secure it. Put the embroidery hoop together.

3. Use the different nature objects you’ve collected to tuck them in between the strings of the dreamcatcher. I also tied and wrapped string around some of the larger items and hung them from the bottom of the hoop.

4. Hang your creation from a tree or in a window to enjoy a bit of spring!
