January 21, 2020 by Amanda Freund

Valentine candy is a classic for a reason: Everyone loves it! However, the heart-shaped candy covers featuring puppies and cartoon characters leave something to be desired. Why not personalize the box top with a little paint and an on-trend design pattern to give your gift the homemade touch? It’s easy, inexpensive, and, with the right paint product, you’ll be set in a matter of minutes. Let’s go!

  • Heart-shaped cardboard boxes
  • Acrylic paint (the Martha Stewart line from Plaid dries opaque in one coat—perfect for covering up any underlying design work)
  • Brushes

Instructions

Squeeze a quarter-sized dollop of paint in each paint pot, mixing a few as you see fit.

3 paint pots

Make a series of simple dashes across the surface, being careful to spread them out but not too evenly. Imperfection is a good thing here! Repeat with multiple paint colors until the entire box top is covered and allow to dry overnight.
